Whole-exome and targeted-panel workflows, with attention to sequence quality and the regions represented in the data.
Human disease · Sequencing & interpretation
Connecting sequence variation with evidence in inherited disorders and cancer.
I am Syed Adnan Haider, a Research Scientist based in Islamabad, Pakistan. My clinical genomics experience comes from work at the Center for Genomic Sciences, Rehman Medical Institute, where I combined sequencing, bioinformatics and variant interpretation before moving into pathogen genomics at NIH.
01 / Laboratory & analysis
At RMI, my responsibilities included laboratory workflows, sequencing-data analysis, germline and somatic variant review, and clinician-facing reporting. I used reference databases and published literature to place sequence findings in their biological and clinical context.
The work also involved maintaining SOPs and quality records, and training colleagues in sequencing and analysis. This experience informs how I approach genomic evidence today: sequence quality, the question being asked and the limits of interpretation need to remain visible throughout an analysis.
Whole-exome and targeted-panel workflows, with attention to sequence quality and the regions represented in the data.
Germline and somatic variant review, drawing on reference databases, literature evidence and the clinical question.
Clinician-facing reporting, quality records and clear documentation of findings and their limitations.
A closer look · Familial deafness
In a study of two Pakistani brothers with familial deafness, an inherited-disease panel and Illumina MiSeq sequencing were used to investigate candidate variants. My contribution was data analysis. The case study explains the published workflow and the distinction between identifying candidates and establishing a diagnosis.
02 / Published contributions
Development of an assay covering the HBB gene, with Illumina MiSeq sequencing and family-based validation in a Pashtun family.
Targeted sequencing and data analysis to investigate candidate variants in MYO7A, TH and EVC2 in two Pakistani brothers.
A review contribution examining genetic factors in oral cancer, complementing my experience in inherited disease and cancer genomics.
I welcome research, scientific roles and training conversations involving clinical genomics, variant interpretation and reproducible bioinformatics, in Pakistan and internationally.
